不說不知，望江亭各長19米的兩翼，因相距不遠，在前面看來便如一名站崗的排頭兵，故有毛澤東青年藝術雕塑護衛之稱。
除望江亭亭子外，下方亦建成臨江的廣場，不單觀賞湘江美景，更是遠眺江河兩岸春光的最佳地點。
